NetBeans: The first jVantage prototype was created in early 2000 using the IBM VisualAge for Java IDE. From there we began using Forte, and soon thereafter moved to NetBeans (v3.21) where we have been ever since. NetBeans is an extremely high quality IDE, which we recommend it to all developers. Since jVantage was created using NetBeans, it remains the easiest way to build jVantage from source. All tutorials on this site also reference NetBeans as the example IDE where applicable.

GlassFish: Although jVantage runs on virtually all compliant Java EE application servers, jVantage was developed primarily using JBoss. However, given the tremendous strides in performance, usability and stability made by the GlassFish team over the last couple of years, we began using GlassFish for internal development in the summer of 2007, and now recommend it to our customers for development and production deployment scenarios. |

Java: Naturally, we continue to recommend the use and support of Java. |

MySQL: Although we used a couple other databases during early development of jVantage, we eventually settled on MySQL for our internal development. jVantage does support other databases, and will continue to be expanded in this area; however, we don't anticipate moving away from MySQL for internal development. |

| Apache |
jVantage utilizes a few Apache tools that are very good.
- Ant: Where would the world be without Ant?
- Log4J: Extremely good logger.
- Velocity: A Java-based template engine - excellent.
- Commons Lang: Very handy utility classes.
